I’ve always been a fan of experiencing new things in the most unexpected ways possible. As an avid traveler and adventurer, I always wondered what it would be like to go to a place no one truly knows about. Travel guides, the internet, and blogs are filled with some of the most breathtaking tourist destinations worldwide for people to get inspired by and plan their travels accordingly.
However, one thing I’ve realized about the true essence of traveling is that the real joy comes from going to places, countries, and cities that are the world’s best-kept secrets. Not many people know about these locations.
As a result, they’re not crowded at any time of the year, serving as some of the best getaway places for people who like to travel and explore new places without all the background noise. As chaotic and fast-paced as most people’s lives are today, they’re frequently looking to escape to vacation destinations that aren’t known by many people and aren’t referred to as hot tourist destinations.
My travel blog website aims to hop on this journey with you as we explore such getaways worldwide together. Whether you’re into stunning views of waterfalls and mountains or prefer hanging by the beach for the entire day with loved ones, there’s a lot that the world has to offer.
Read on to learn about some of the best-kept secret destinations you should check when trying to go on a peaceful, low-maintenance, and one of the most memorable vacations of your life.
Roatan, Honduras
A few years ago, I was making my travel vision board with cut-outs from some magazines I had managed to find at a thrift store nearby. This was when I came across one of the most exquisite images of a tropical island with small huts around a large beach with little to no people. As I began reading about it to find out what this place was, I was astonished that I had never heard about Honduras before.
A little internet research allowed me to realize that Honduras is one of the most serene spots in the world for anyone looking to travel for peace and tranquility. I would describe Roatan, Honduras, as a heavenly place with just the right amount of serenity and quiet you’ll never get bored of. Strategically located in Central America, Roatan is one of the most underrated travel destinations that most people rarely know about.
It’s one of the most beautiful islands on the continent, with multiple activities for vacationers of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you want to cross snorkeling or deep sea diving off your bucket list or need some alone time to reset your mind and body, it’s an excellent idea to consider Roatan, Honduras, for your next travels.
Despite not being as popular as it should be, the travel and tourism industry in the region successfully facilitates guests and travelers with its resorts, hotels, motels, and various other amenities. A two-week-long stay in a place like this will undoubtedly serve as one of the most incredible experiences around the world for you.
Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina
When you think about going on vacation to explore a travel destination around the world, the last thing that would come to your mind would be a village. But what if I told you that there’s one village that’ll make the perfect tourist destination for anyone looking for a secret getaway place? If you’re interested in traveling around the Balkan region, you should undoubtedly consider checking out Mostar in Bosnia.
It’s one of the key locations for anyone who’s always looking to capture travel photos with many colors of nature. In fact, Mostar is a dream for people with food and travel blog websites with thousands of Instagram-worthy views and places throughout the historic village. Bosnia & Herzegovina is just starting to get its well-deserved reputation as a tourist destination, which is something it didn’t enjoy before.
It’s safe to say that if your idea of the perfect getaway is spending quality time by the river valley, watching waterfalls, exploring historical Turkish homes, and going for a rejuvenating swim across the waterfalls, Mostar should be on your travel checklist. I’m sure this isn’t a place you might’ve thought about when thinking of places to visit in Europe.
Make sure you make every second count in this heavenly location by documenting every moment and taking pictures to attract your travel blog readers and viewers seamlessly.
Beenkeragh, Ireland
Not everyone likes to go on vacation for some peace and quiet. Many people think the ultimate vacation is going on an adventure like skiing, running marathons, paragliding, and hiking. If you think you have it in you to hike up an extremely high mountain, make sure you check out Beenkeragh, Ireland. This is a travel destination that I discovered while watching the latest season of Outlander when James Fraser formed an alliance with the 18th-century Irish soldiers.
A few Google searches later, I found out that it’s the second-highest mountain peak in Ireland that now serves as the ultimate travel destination around the world. Despite not being as popular among travelers, Beenkeragh is a favorite hiking spot for people who love a good challenge.
This mountain offers one of the most challenging hiking experiences for most people. However, it all becomes worth the physical activity when you finally get to enjoy the sublime views of Ireland and its historical sites from the top of the mountain. If you’re traveling to Ireland any time soon, Beenkeragh should be on your go-to list, especially if you’ve run out of thrilling and exciting vacation activities for you and your family during your travels.
There’s a high chance you’ll make some like-minded friends and connections with others on the summit too.
Vatnajökull Ice Cave, Iceland
I’ve been a traveler for around four years. The only thing that has often motivated me to explore new places around the world is my local food and travel blog website. In fact, I am one of the view people who understand that traveling doesn’t necessarily have to be fun. As a food and travel blogger, I realize the responsibility one has to constantly produce new and exciting content.
This includes checking how photography gems and capturing them before the rest of the world finds out about them. The good news is that one place that’ll help you meet this goal is Vatnajökull Ice Cave, Iceland
Iceland has always been my favorite winter travel destination around the world, primarily because I love spending time in the snow and capturing all the beauty it brings. While Iceland is a beauty in itself, the Vatnajökull Ice Cave consists of multiple ice caves that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
These caves are incredibly sublime during the winter months, allowing photographers to take some of the most breathtaking photos to add to their landscape photography portfolio. The region is full of glaciers during the spring that ultimately turns into caves by the end of the year.
International photographers from various parts of the world have managed to win photography grants and competitions by showcasing all the beauty they’ve captured in Iceland. You can now do the same by traveling to the country this year.
Ostuni, Puglia, Italy
One thing I’ve noticed about popular travel destinations around the world is that these places primarily include big cities and historical sites without taking into account the significance of small cities that offer tranquility and relaxation for most tourists. If you’re someone who resonates more with the small-city atmosphere, Ostuni is just the right place for you when you’re exploring Italy.
Ostuni is a walled city that was built during the medieval era. The best part about is that the Italians didn’t necessarily have a well-thought-out plan when they were building the city so they simply winged it. Today, its streets, roads, and valleys are made like a massive maze that travelers often perceive as a unique adventure (if they manage to not get lost).
The city is home to multiple intimate restaurants, boutiques, markets, and shopping arenas where you’ll find some of the most reasonable items compared to other Italian cities like Venice and Milan.
Battambang, Cambodia
Lastly, if there’s one Asian getaway location you want to go to, it’s Battambang, Cambodia. It’s an excellent destination for travelers looking for a more spiritual and religious atmosphere.
Despite not having nightlife, beaches, mountains, and islands, Battambang is home to some of the most stunning temples that people travel to for pilgrimage and religious studies. It’s the perfect travel experience for someone who likes to pursue new information during their travels, especially when trying to share it on their local travel blog website.
