Uncover the Unique Beauty of the Faroe Islands in Denmark

Located in the chilly waters of the North Atlantic between Scotland and Iceland, the Faroe Islands of Denmark are one of Europe’s best hidden gems. They consist of 18 small islands that are a world away from the hustle and bustle of tourist destinations. This makes them the ideal place for travelers who seek to uncover something truly amazing.

The thing that makes the Faroes one of the world’s most unique travel destinations is its isolation and untouched beauty. With steep cliffs, deep fjords, and rugged landscapes, the islands boast of some never-seen-before natural Nordic charm. After all, not only do they offer pristine wilderness sites, but they are also mostly free of large tourist crowds. As a result, we can be sure that this side of the Danish Kingdom offers a travel experience that remains unmatched in Europe.

The Faroe Islands have a rich historical and cultural heritage that dates back to when the Vikings arrived more than a thousand years ago. They are also known for their unique culinary delicacies like fermented lamb. Additionally, the Faroe Islands have their own language called Faroese, which is a beautiful blend of Old Norse with other Scandinavian languages.

Back in the day, the Faroe Islands had been ruled by Norway before being governed by Denmark. Today, the islands have been self-governed since ’48 while being within the external sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark.

If you decide to visit these gorgeous islands, you can explore their unique landscapes by hiking, sailing, or even driving around the coastal roads. I also recommend that you indulge in the unique cultural experience offered through their traditional music, culinary traditions, and fascinating Norse mythology.

Explore Classic Italian Culture and Traditions in Puglia

the crystal-clear waters of Torre Sant'Andrea, Melendugno in Puglia

Set like a gem in the southern region of Italy, Puglia is a unique travel destination you can’t miss out on! Unlike other regions of the country, the “bread basket of Italy,” is a relatively lesser-known location that sees fewer tourists. That being said, it offers a one-of-a-kind travel experience that can’t be replicated elsewhere. It’s why Puglia is second on our list of hidden travel destinations you have to visit.

The gorgeous region is known for its distinct allure with its stunning coastlines, vibrant culture, picturesque rural landscape, and delicious cuisine. Puglia is also home to many charming towns and fascinating cities, such as the gorgeous Leece and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Alberobello. You absolutely have to check out Leece, lovingly dubbed as the “Florence of the South,” for its stunning baroque architecture and rich cultural history. I also recommend taking a stroll down the serene streets and taking in the beautiful views of the “White City”, Ostuni.

That said, one of the biggest plus points of Puglia is its remarkably gorgeous coastline. After all, it features crystal-clear waters, serene coves, and fascinating cliff formations. In fact, you can find some of the best beaches Italy has to offer in Puglia. These include the stunning shores of Polignano a Mare and the beautiful coves of Santa Maria di Leuca. If you’re up for an adventure, I recommend you take a boat to the Tremiti Islands or uncover the sea caves located in the Gargano Peninsula.

Don’t forget to indulge in the delectable local cuisine in Puglia, rivaling Tuscany for its gourmet title. Not only is the food out of this world, but it is truly in line with classic Italian traditions and values. I recommend you try out the scrumptious handmade pasta and fresh seafood, with locally-grown vegetables. With its vibrant culture and delicious food, you’ll absolutely love visiting Puglia.

Check Out the Awe-Inspiring Ancient City of Petra in Jordan

the crafted sandstones of Petra, Jordan

Found in the southwestern desert of Jordan, Petra is a fascinating unique travel destination that deserves a spot on our list. The ancient city carved into the red sandstone cliffs of the desert is one of the most fascinating places you’ll ever visit. In fact, the carvings are a true testament to the craftsmanship of the people who inhabited the city more than 2,000 years ago.

The Nabatean tribe resided in Petra a couple of thousand years ago. They were Arabian nomads, and among the various nomadic Bedouin tribes that used to roam the Arabian Desert. Nabataean people were known for their skills in trading, especially in valuable items of the time like frankincense and myrrh. They were also impressive architects and builders who erected fascinating structures and cities in the rocky desert terrain, such as Petra. As a result, the Nabataeans left a significant impact on the culture and history of the region which is still important to this day.

If you ever decide to come to Jordan, it’s imperative that you don’t miss out on Petra’s many archaeological wonders. These include awe-inspiring structures like the towering monastery, the iconic treasury, and the fascinating royal tombs. Another highlight is the impressive rock formations and carvings along the winding, narrow Siq, which leads to the city.

Other than the amazing, rich history and stunning architecture, Petra also offers a unique landscape with picturesque sceneries. The desert surrounding the ancient city entails gorgeous towering cliffs with expansive vistas and rugged mountains. This is a site that is truly one-of-a-kind. You can explore this scenic natural view by taking a hike through the rugged terrain.

I also recommend that you take the time to uncover the hidden canyons, valleys, and rock formations during your visit. You’ll also find that the area is full of natural wildlife with a variety of animals like the ibex, hyrax, and the desert fox.

However, that’s not all because Petra is also the ideal location for those who wish to indulge in vibrant cultural experiences. The ancient city is home to rich Bedouin heritage passed from generation to generation. It’s why I recommend that you explore the Bedouin villages near the city during your stay to experience, indulge in, and learn about traditional crafts, music, and cuisine. I can assure you that Petra is a destination that offers a truly unforgettable and one-of-a-kind experience.
