As someone fortunate enough to have traveled around the world, one piece of advice I give everyone looking to make the most out of their travels is to eat locally. There’s no better way to enjoy your trip than by tasting and chowing down all the foods your destinations are essentially known for.

Some of the best culinary destinations around the world that I’ve been to include Spain, Italy, and France. This means you’re at the right place if you’re looking for the top foodie destinations in Spain or famous culinary destinations in France.

Here are three local foods you must try when traveling around the world.

Paella Valenciana in Spain

I’m a picky eater when it comes to rice dishes. However, this Spanish dish instantly made me fall in love at the very first bite. The Paella Valenciana is authentic Spanish food consisting of perfectly textured rice with veggies, herbs, and meat of your choice. It’s not only flavorful and delicious but is the perfect choice for anyone looking to stay healthy during their travels in Spain.

Most restaurants and foodie destinations in Spain prepare this dish using homemade spices and seasonings. While some add chicken to it, many people choose a rabbit as their meat of choice. The green peas with finely chopped carrots and butter beans make it an incredibly filling meal that can even be shared by two if your appetite isn’t much.

Margherita Pizza in Italy

While Italy is known for its wide range of authentic pasta, you may have heard about the authentic Margherita pizza in Italy too. This pizza is a completely new and more flavorful dish than what we call pizza in the USA.

The perfectly rolled bread with a flavorful tomato sauce with herbs makes every bite of this pizza worth your visit to Italy.

Beef Bourguignon in France

If you’re a fan of American steaks, wait till you try the beef bourguignon in France. It’s one of the chef’s specials in most culinary destinations in France. Prepared with subtle seasonings and red wine sauce, the meat in this dish is as soft and juicy as butter.

This, with a side of potatoes or rice, makes every meal a hundred times better.
